Homestead Exemption Application Requirements


Section 11.43 of the Texas Property Tax Code requires a copy of the applicant’s driver’s license or state-issued personal identification certificate. The address on the driver’s license or state-issued personal identification certificate must correspond with the address of the property for which the exemption is being applied.  The chief appraiser may waive this requirement for an active duty member (or spouse) of the armed services that has a military ID card and a copy of a utility bill for the claimed home in the applicant’s or spouse’s name.
