March 23, 2020

The Wichita Appraisal District (WAD) will continue operations but will no longer provide face-to-face services to the public inside the building, effective immediately, as part of the effort to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The appraisal district will continue operations, and we are committed to being responsive to our property owners. However, we believe it to be in the best interest of our community and our employees to temporarily suspend direct face-to-face contact with the public while continuing to provide services through other options, such as our website and phone services.

Social distancing is one of the best ways to support the heath of the entire community. We are mailing our real estate appraisal notices to property owners on April 10th. The valuation notices we plan to send in April will represent property values as of January 1, 2020 per the Texas Property Tax Code. Any impact on values from the current health crisis will be reflected in the 2021 property valuations. There are currently no provisions in the tax code to allow for reductions in values for 2020 based on an event such as the current health crisis. The property owner walk-in period for the 2020 appraisal protest season will most likely be eliminated; we will continue to have employees available to answer your questions through the phone during regular business hours.

The deadline for filing a Business Personal Property is April 15; on written request by the property owner the deadline for filing a rendition will be extended to May 15.  The written request must be sent to the appraisal district, no later than April 15.

Many services and forms are available on the District’s website. If you require assistance, please feel free to contact our office at 940-322-2435 or email the department you need listed in our staff directory here. Please also monitor our website for continued updates on WAD’s operations.
